The messaging company WhatsApp says the app has seen a never before 14 billion messages sent on new year eve. This number is higher than last record set during Diwali when 8 Billion messages were sent in one day, says the company. With WhatsApp getting entrenched into lives for messaging and connecting with our near and dear ones, this is a milestone for the company which has over 160 million monthly active users on in India.
Whether it is celebrating festivals and occasions with friends and family or staying connected, WhatsApp has become an integral mode of communication for people to connect, transcending miles and distance. The reasons that make this app so popular is partly because of the convenience and the simplicity that the app offer to use for a whole range of purposes.
On 31st December, 14 billion WhatsApp messages were exchanged which included 3.1 million images and 700 million GIFs. The number of videos sent is as high as 610 million. 32% of messages were some form of media (photos, GIFs, videos, voice messages), adds the company.
